Intergovernmental Observer to the United Nations Economic and Social Council Under ECOSOC Resolution 2003/212 Dated 5th of March 2003.
Designated by the United Nations Economic & Social Council Under Rule 79 of the Council’s Rules and Procedures.
IN SUPPORT OF THE UNITED NATIONS SYSTEM FOR A BETTER WORLD AND THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 2015 - 2030
[As a little child that was inflicted by Polio, I can empathize with the joy experienced and shared by the young and the disabled when they realize their dreams to play football and come out as a real champion not only in the game but also in life.] - REMIGIO MARADONA
H.E. Ambassador Remigio M. Maradona, Secretary-General-IIMSAM, stated:
I perceive CAMP MARADONA® as a potent tool to initiate grassroots empowerment processes through Football- the most popular sport in the world. The societal participation in the programme manifests the will of the people to incorporate Spirulina in the sustainable development agenda and the inclusion of football as a powerful medium to empower the youth that are the future leaders of the country. The initiatives in the Republic of Kenya are IIMSAM’s maiden enterprise and I urge the international community to come forward and support the endeavour of IIMSAM to eradicate malnutrition, achieve food security and bridge the health divide through Spirulina especially in the developing countries; and through CAMP MARADONA® to recognise and utilise the potential of sport not only to empower youth but also to affect a positive change in societies worldwide.
IIMSAM’s CAMP MARADONA is an extension of Football4Peace, a programme that was conceptualized and developed by H.E. Amb. Remigio Maradona for WAFUNIF the official Alumni Association of UN System in the year 2001. CAMP MARADONA is endorsed and supported by its goodwill ambassadors from across the world like eminent footballer Diego Maradona, footballer Eric Wynalda and Olympian Peter Rono among others.
