Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Micro-Algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition

IIMSAM Officially Successfully Launched Spirulina Advocacy and Feeding Programme at Its Center (His Royal Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Alnahyan Spirulina Feeding Center Kisumu - Kenya Sponsored by IIMSAM’S Honorary USG For Humanitarian Affairs H.E. Dr. Omar Al Ajaji of the Kindom of Saudi Arabia.

IIMSAM officially successfully launched Spirulina advocacy and feeding programme at its center (His Royal Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Alnahyan Spirulina Feeding Center Kisumu - Kenya). The well attended launch had a population of over 250 in attendance; and these were over 170 children and over 80 adults. The group in attendance was treated on fresh Spirulina doses and a “pilau” lunch. The participants who extensively benefited from over 650 doses of fresh Spirulina served to them fortified in “uji” thanked IIMSAM for this long awaited gesture and initiative.

(showned in IIMSAM-Pictures below: “The participants recalled the abundandant Spirulina health benefits occasioned from IIMSAM gesture to avail Spirulina to all and thanked IIMSAM on behalf of all its friends and well-wishers for their individual contributions towards the initiative. This was particularly and specifically in reference to the kind heart of H.E. Dr. Omar Al Ajaji for his contribution in making the occasion and the many subsequent ones a great success.The area government administrator who was in attendance and a beneficiary acknowledged on behalf of the Government the good engagements of IIMSAM and its supporters in saving lives within Kisumu and Kenya as a whole.” IIMSAM ceased the same opportunity to invite participants in the polio vaccination programme to ensure that all participating children under five years were polio vaccine compliant.

Comments by Fredrick Lwamba,IIMSAM’S Field and Administrative Director, Sheikh Zayed Spirulina Distribution Centre, Kisumu Kenya showned below in IIMSAM-Pictures below: “Kaloleni estate like Bandani and Manyatta Arab are basically inhabited by needy Kenyans of up to over 95% populace of Muslim background. The community like others is equally exposed to most common health challenges experienced as a result of dietary imbalances and food inadequacy. Malnutrition is therefore a common phenomenon within the surviving adults and girl/boy children within the community. HIV Aids has not spared taking its toll from either the children or adults within the community. A challenge which has severely and negatively impacted on the affected and the infected because of the stigma suffered from the negative attitude when it comes to openly declaring the ones status. Preventive and curative health needs are of a concern and necessity. It is on the basis of this understanding that IIMSAM prioritized the community and the estate for such an immediate attention hence action…A total 2000gms (40 sachets each 50 gms) of Spirulina powder and another 2000 gms fresh Spirulina thus a total 2000 doses of Spirulina was distributed to benefit over 250 children and over 130 adults ,courtesy of IIMSAM. A major more inclusive feeding program is planned for the following month to benefit more people. The group in attendance was treated on fresh Spirulina doses and a “pilau speciality” lunch. The participants who extensively benefited from over 2000 doses of fresh Spirulina served to them fortified in “uji” thanked IIMSAM and its Sponsor H.E. Dr. Omar Al Ajaji for his great generosity.

“Beneficiaries conveyed their heartfelt most sincere thanks to the IIMSAM Inter-governmental Organization (I.G.O.) for the concern demonstrated to ensuring their improved health and an opportunity to live a quality life through supplemental feeding on Spirulina. They appealed for continued similar and such support to help them steer clear from challenges and dangers of malnutrition..hence its related side health complications and subsequent fatal eventualities. IIMSAM thanked the Imams and teachers for their support in ensuring the success of the programme. Plans are underway to replicate the same programme to other rural communities in great need of the benefits of Spirulina in fighting malnutrition and other related ilnesses.”
