THE IMPORTANCE OF IIMSAM's PARTICIPATION IN
THE UNITED NATIONS


There are numerous benefits to participating as a Permanent Observer Mission to the United Nations.

These include :

•  Producing practical solutions to the contemporary problems related to acute malnutrition and the responsibility of the International Community.

• Demonstrating leadership by advancing universal principles and the U.N. Resolutions in relationship to world hunger, extreme poverty, and sustainable development to generate an international awareness for greater sensitivity and inclusiveness within a multilateral context in uniting all the stakeholders to confront severe malnutrition.

• Accessing the UN's global reach and convening power with Governments, Businesses, Civil Society, and other Stakeholders

•  Sharing good practices and learning(s).

•  Accessing the UN's vast and extensive know-how on themes related to malnutrition, extreme poverty, sustainable development, and of the prctical actions taken by the world body.

 

IISAM is committed to the ideals inscribed in the Charter of the United Nations and its work is inspired and guided by the following U.N. Resolutions:

We, the Heads of State and Government, or our representatives, gathered at the World Food Summit at the invitation of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, reaffirm the right of everyone to have access to safe and nutritious food, consistent with the right to adequate food and the fundamental right of everyone to be free from hunger. We pledge our political will and our common and national commitment to achieving food security for all and to an ongoing effort to eradicate hunger in all countries, with an immediate view to reducing the number of undernourished people to half their present level no later than 2015

Resolution Number (55/2) - The Millennium Declaration by the Heads of the Member States of the United Nations on 8 th September 2000 .

Resolution Number (60/3) - that proclaimed the period 2001-2010 as "The International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World," Resolution.

Resolution Number (59/202) - The Right to Food.

UN ECOSOC Resolution 2000/64 on Transparency and Good Governance: Transparency, Responsibility, Accountability, Participation, and Responsiveness to the Needs of Peoples.

Resolution Number ( 1325 ) - Assuring women's participation in Peace-Making and Peace-Building, approved by the UN Security Council.

Known for centuries, Spirulina is an edible micro-alga. Under favorable conditions, it grows rapidly and produces an excellent source of protein and vitamins. It is a traditional food in some countries, and has gained popularity as a new health food in others. Spirulina can help combat malnutrition, consistent with the UN Millennium Development Goal Number 1 - to Reduce Extreme Poverty and Hunger.
