H.E. Ambassador Mr. Remigio Martin Maradona, Director-General, has been in the UN System since 1987 when he joined the World Association of Former UN Interns and Fellows as the first disabled interne to do an Internship at the UN Headquarters. H.E. Maradona possesses a Masters Degree in Public Administration. His bachelor's degree is in Political Science and History. He is a graduate of Hunter College (CUNY) H.E. Ambassador Maradona became the Director-General of the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of micro-algae Spirulina against malnutrition (IIMSAM). to the United Nations in 2007.
H.E. Maradona has been a staunch supporter of the Rights of the Disabled. He has actively participated at the various sessions of the United Nations Ad-Hoc Committee on Comprehensive and Integral International Convention on Protection and Promotion of the Rights and Dignity of Persons with Disabilities both as an NGO and with the delegations of Chile and Vanuatu. From 1988-2005 was the Senior Institutional Development Associate with the World Association of Former UN Internes and Fellows and was the youngest member ever to be elected to the Board of Directors. He was the founder and architect behind the stars filled WAFUNIF "Futbol4Peace" campaign that was aimed at spreading awareness about various UN Programmes and the WAFUNIF in-house programmes. He initiated the WAFUNIF Multi-Center in Nicaragua that was a recreational and educational centre for children, adults, and the disabled.
H.E. Maradona was appointed as its Hon. Ambassador and Special Adviser to the United Nations by the Republic of Vanuatu on 15 September 2005 with a portfolio from the Foreign Ministry on Social, Humanitarian Affairs and Disability Issues. H.E. Maradona reports directly to the Deputy-Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs.
H.E. Maradona is also a published poet who is immensely popular amongst the readers especially for his romantic poetry. He has been awarded on numerous occasions that include the prestigious Ruben Dario Award and the House of Noble Poets in London ,U.K besides many others.
He was conferred with "2006 Global Human Rights Protection Award" by the Indian Institute of Human Rights at the 8th World Human Rights Congress held in New Delhi, India on the World Human Rights Day on the 10th of December 2006.

Ambassador H.E. Shariar G. Rahimi, Director-Protocol and Deputy Observer Representative to the UN/ECOSOC has been involved in UN circles for over 20 years in various capacities. H.E. Rahimi started his career in United Nations related work as an intern with the Governing council of UNDP in Geneva Switzerland in 1983 that led to his appointment as an assistant to Chief of Information with newly established UNOEOA office (United Nations Office for Emergency Operations in Africa) which dealt with Africa's-famine related issues in 17 countries. In 1987-89 Mr. Rahimi continued his career with the Permanent Mission of Bahrain to the UN as an adviser to the Deputy Ambassador.
H.E. Rahimi contributed towards voluntary work with Non Governmental Organizations affiliated with United Nations that included treasurer for Committee for UN Habitat in New York . His academic career consists of undergraduate studies at Hunter College [CUNY] obtaining a BA in Political Science and later enrolled in a Master`s Programme at Columbia University. Also was a non matriculated student at New School for Social Research (N.Y.) and Georgetown University located in Washington D.C. H.E. Rahimi was appointed Ambassador and Alternate Observer Representative of the IIMSAM Observer Mission to the United Nations Economic and Social Council [ECOSOC] on 28 July 2005 .

Mr. Manish Uprety, Ambassador and Special Adviser at-large , was born in a small and scenic hill station, Almora, in India. He is an alumnus of the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, India and the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London, United Kingdom. Having gained professional experience by working for corporates like Smithkline Beecham Consumer Healthcare, Sodexho, and Mahindra & Mahindra in India, he moved to London to pursue academics. During his association with the One World Trust, Houses of Parliament, UK, he was responsible for important issues of International Peace & Security and International Development.
He also gained journalistic experience with the BBC World Service. He wants to use his learning, abilities, and skills that he gained both professionally and otherwise, and academic background in Science, International Business, and Human Rights to empower effective agencies through multiparty stakeholder's approach to counter rampant deprivations especially in the developing world. A polyglot and a prolific writer on international developmental issues, he is quite interested to explore the role sports can play in enriching human Capital in the context of globalization.

Ms. Emma Hallberg is a diplomatic adviser for IIMSAM Permanent Observer Mission at the United Nations. She is also an executive board member of World of Hope International (WOHI), a non-governmental organization promoting peace, health and education in Ghana. Emma has been traveling extensively in central Africa and has a through experience of the UN system both at headquarter level and as well as of the field. She obtained her B.S in Business and Economics after completion of studies at the School of Business and Management, Lund as well as at Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Lille (IEP - Sciences Po ).
She obtained her Master's in Political Science from University of Lund, Sweden. Emma is a recipient of the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency's (SIDA) grant for Minor field studies. She has attended various high-segment international conferences and workshops. |
Dr. Gilda A. Glasinovich is a Special Technical Advisor and Director of Field Operations for IIMSAM. She has extensive education andtraining in epidemiology, demography, psychology, and public health. She is a graduate from Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Peru), University of London (United Kingdom) and Columbia University (United States) among other academic institutions.
Dr. Glasinovich's work is focused on public management of multiethnic communities with special interest on women's health. A resident of New York, she has brought to public attention the social and economic impact of international migration to health systems. She works closely with government, private and non-governmental organizations to operationalise and implement effective public health actions and to foster effective partnerships at community levels.
Dr. Glasinovich is a United Nations' Representative with the Economic and Social Council, and her expertise on women's health and immigrant populations makes her a valuable contributor. As a Technical Adviser on Gender and Immigrant Populations, she works closely with UN Permanent State Member Missions and partakes on special assignments ranging from project design and implementation to being a world speaker promoting UN agendas. Dr. Glasinovich contributes with the Division of Public Administration and Management Development, the Division for the Advancement of Women, UNICEF, UNIFEM, WHO, and the DESA NGO Section.
Dr. Glasinovich is the President of The Council on the Status of Latin American Women, a multidisciplinary group that works distinctively to implement CEDAW and the Beijing Platform for Action within the LAC region and among immigrant women's groups in New York City. More recently, the Council is actively coordinating local actions and acting as the bridge to implement the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) global agenda.
At the local level, Dr. Glasinovich is considered one of the most important health professionals and actively contributes in different capacities with the US Department of Health and Humans Services, Office on Women's Health; NYS Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence; NYC Commission on Human Rights; Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs; the American Cancer Society and the AIDS Institute.
Dr. Glasinovich is the recipient of Congressional Recognitions for her work to forward immigrant women's agenda, and the State and City of New York have honoured her with ‘Outstanding Public Service' acknowledgments. The Women's Media Consortium recognized her efforts in changing the way media portrays women with the ‘New Voice Prize', and the Women's Federation for World Peace named her ‘Remarkable Woman of the Year', being the first Latin American to receive this prestigious award. Her dedication to community-capacity building is highly known, and many other awards attest her genuine commitment to a world of equal rights, cultural understanding, and social empowerment for all women and their families.

H.E. Dr. Ibne Hassan, Legal-Counsel is a Fellow at the Harvard University. Dr. Hassan has held several advisory and consultative, as well as diplomatic and representative appointments in an international capacity for the government of Pakistan and the United Nations Development Programme. Other organizations in which Hassan has been active includes Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes and Lerach, LLP, New York, the Institute of Policy Analysis, Washington Institute for International Security Studies, Washington and Commission on Middle Eastern Affairs, Washington. Hassan earned PH.D.s in International Law from Cambridge University and in International Relations from Oxford University. Dr. Hassan was appointed Ambassador at-Large of IIMSAM on 17 December 2005. |
Prof. Graciela Chichilnisky, IIMSAM’s Director of Technical Operations and Special Adviser, is a native of Argentina and a citizen of the US. A Professor of Statistics at the Columbia University, she holds the UNESCO Chair of Mathematics and Economics. Prof. Chichilnisky is the Director of Columbia’s Center for Risk Management (CCRM) where she designed the Columbia's Program on Information and Resources (PIR) in 1995 that is focused on transforming the University's teaching and research agenda to reflect the growing trend towards globalization and sustainable development. PIR attracted major support from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), from six leading reinsurance companies and along with the Sloan Foundation.
Professor Chichilnisky holds two Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley and her doctorates in Mathematics and Economics were awarded in 1971 and 1976 respectively. A tenured professor at Columbia since 1979, she has been Director of its Program on Information and Resources since its founding in 1994. She taught previously at Harvard, Essex and Stanford Universities and was from 1985-90 chairman and chief executive officer of FITEL, a financial telecommunications corporation active in New York, London and Tokyo. Prof. Chichilnisky has also served as the Salinbemi Professor at the University of Siena during 1994-1995. She has authored thirteen books and over two hundred scientific articles that were published in pre-eminent academic journals covering economics, finance and mathematics.
Prof. Chichilnisky introduced the concept of Basic Needs, which was adopted by 150 countries in the United Nations Earth Summit (UNES) and appears in the UN Agenda 21 as the central element of their strategies for sustainable development. She also introduced Catastrophe Bundles, new financial instruments to deal with environmental risks. In 1995, she proposed the global trading of carbon emissions with preferential treatment for poor countries to the World Bank that was later integrated in the Kyoto Protocol adopted by 166 nations in December 1997. She also advocated the creation of an International Bank for Environmental Settlements to regulate the same.
She has served as an adviser to many international organizations, including the United Nations Economics Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, the Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the United Nations and the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC); in the areas of international economics and environmental policy. Prof. Chichilnisky is a former member of the Presidential Cabinet of the Central Bank of Argentina, an active consultant to the United Nations on international trade issues and to the global financial industry on derivatives and reinsurance, besides being the Lead Author of the Intergovernmental Programme on Climate Change (IPCC).
Prof. Chichilnisky is the recipient of the 1995 Lief Johansen Award from the University of Oslo for the introduction of Markets with Endogenous Uncertainty. She is associated in the capacity of a Director or as a Trustee of the CrossBorder Exchange, National Resources Defense Council, the Mediterranean College among others; and is in the editorial boards of leading professional journals, including Advances in Applied Mathematics, Review of Economic Studies, Economic Letters, Journal of International Trade and Economic Development and Journal of Development Economics. She is also listed in Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Science and Engineering, Who's Who in Education and in the Dictionary of International Biography among the world's 1,000 most outstanding scientists of the 21st century.

IIMSAM-Adviser and Sp. Assistant to the Director-General Ms Sandra Rutz
from Germany is currently a degree student of International Business and Management at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena. She is a young, motivated person who is very interested in projects which try to make the world a better place. She is a member of the Melton Foundation which was established to build a world-wide community of talented people from diverse cultures capable of addressing global issues based on principles of open communication and mutual respect. She also enjoys to travel and to meet people from all around the world and as result, she has visited over 20 countries around the globe alongside a travel program in Australia.
Ms. Rutz is a trained Banker with extensive working experience with HypoVereinsbank in Germany. As a regional intern in North America, she was able to build up a global network with Alumni. Other international experiences include an exchange program/study abroad program with Mansfield University of Pennsylvania U.S.A where she was able to learn about the different school systems and established new contacts with other international students. Sandra is very active, she likes outdoor sports and her favorite outdoor activities are biking and diving. She has worked on her own project which provides basic education materials in African countries while trying to build up sponsorship with schools in Germany. Sandra will be liaison with the German Government, Funding Institutions, NGOs and IGO in Germany on behalf of IIMSAM.
